What You’ll Do

This role is responsible for assisting loan officers in assessing business risk and underwriting commercial loans (C&I, Ag, CRE) in accordance with established underwriting policies, practices and standards. Commercial customers with UMB credit exposure over $3 million are assessed/decisioned via the commercial underwriting team. Key highlights of the role include:

-Interpret and analyze loan proposals to support the commercial underwriting process, justify loan decisions and provide requested internal consulting on prospective or current deals.
-Research and utilize data from specific companies to support UMB direction for loan decisions, including borrower/guarantor repayment capacity, appropriate loan structuring recommendations, collateral analysis, covenant structuring and compliance, and pricing and risk rating rationale.
-Work with loan officers and managers across the UMB footprint in reviewing loan submissions to ensure completeness of all information required for loan decisions, both locally or at the UMB senior loan committee level.
-Present loan submissions to the UMB senior loan committee on behalf of loan officers throughout the UMB footprint and answer questions relative to the review and approval of the loan.
-Analyze underwriting and loan decisions completed at the local lending approval level and report to senior management.
-Work with team members in loan operations, credit analysis, regional commercial banking, commercial real estate group, special asset management group, loan review, public finance, capital markets and international banking to coordinate commercial loan decisions and ongoing commercial loan administration.
-Participate in Commercial Credit Underwriting projects, as available.
-Other duties as assigned.

Who You Are

-Bachelor`s degree in business administration, finance or accounting
-3 years experience in commercial banking (including specific commercial lending /underwriting experience)

Preferred Requirements

-5+ years commercial banking experience
-MBA or Masters in finance or accounting
-RMA Credit Risk Certified
-Credit administration, compliance or lending experience in mid-size or large bank

-Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills to include effective verbal and written communication with key leaders and other partners
-Demonstrates intermediate level of credit underwriting and accounting knowledge
-Demonstrates knowledge of loan and credit policies, operations and processes/procedures
-Demonstrates analytical aptitude with strong problem-solving skills and ability to make quick decisions.
-Demonstrates ability to work under pressure given large workload and frequent deliverables, including strong organizational and multi-tasking skills
-Demonstrates ability to work independently
-Demonstrates ability to influence based on factual support, including but not limited to common scientific & technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents
-Demonstrates strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word)
