The Department of Dental Public Health & Behavioral Science is passionate about improving access to oral healthcare and eliminating oral health disparities for vulnerable populations. We accomplish this through our education and training of pre-doctoral dental and dental hygiene students. The department focuses on contemporary oral health issues such the social determinants of health, interprofessional education and training, person-centered care, and alternative workforce models. Faculty in the department are responsible for teaching dental public health, dental ethics, clinical decision making, behavioral science, community engagement, and practice management didactic courses. The department is responsible for the 3-week Externship Program which places senior dental students in Community Health Centers located throughout Missouri and Kansas, to gain first-hand experience in the dental field collaborating with interprofessional teams. Additionally, the department oversees the University Academy Dental Clinic. The department conducts research in a variety of areas related to dental public health and access to care.
The Department of Oral & Craniofacial Sciences maintains a multi-disciplinary approach to research and graduate education. We employ a dedicated staff and maintain state-of-the-art equipment to support our world-renowned faculty’s high level of research grant funding. We have an energetic and dynamic research environment focused on the oral and craniofacial tissues that includes studies of dental biomaterials, bone/tissue regeneration, craniofacial development, and musculoskeletal diseases. We have a weekly seminar program that brings in outside experts in our fields of study from around the globe. Our research is supported by outstanding core facilities within the Department including confocal microscopy, tomographic imaging, electron microscopy, histology, 3D printing, genomics, and an AAALAC-accredited animal facility. In addition to research, our faculty are committed to supporting and developing graduate and post-graduate students in their educational and research efforts.

Job Description

The University of Missouri – Kansas City School of Dentistry is seeking applications for an experienced administrative assistant (Office Support Assistant IV) for the departments of Dental Public Health and Behavioral Science and Oral and Craniofacial Sciences. Successful candidates will enjoy working with students, faculty, and staff from a variety of backgrounds, be self-directed, detail oriented, accurate, and have outstanding multitasking skills. Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Assistance with logistics and paperwork for community engagement activities, department seminars and retreats, all-school IPE events, visiting speakers and scholars, Give-Kids a Smile day, and student educational activities.
  • Generate reports for department reviews, accreditation, and meeting minutes.
  • Process vacation and sick leave requests.
Promote Departments Internally and Externally
  • Keep department webpages up to date so they are accurate and current.
  • Promote departments work on social media.
Increase Research Productivity
  • Coordinate equipment surpluses, chemical disposal, etc.
  • Provide grant and research support such as data entry.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least 5 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and advanced ability to organize and maintain electronic files.
  • Demonstrated advanced ability to utilize Microsoft Word, Power Point, Excel, Outlook, OneDrive, and OneNote.
  • Experience with web management/social media and Canvas is highly preferred.

Full Time/Part Time

40 hour per week (1.0 FTE), fully-benefit-eligible, staff position


Up to $17.00 per hour, commensurate with experience, education, and internal equity.
