The City of Overland Park has a full-time Probation Officer/Substance Abuse Specialist position
available in the Municipal Court.

Responsibilities: Supervises a caseload of probation/parole and/or diversion defendants to
ensure compliance with sentencing guidelines and court ordered requirements. Conducts
substance abuse assessments of persons charged with alcohol/drug offenses; conducts
risk/needs assessments, provides expert testimony to the Municipal Court through written report
with recommendations. Assists with speciality projects as assigned by Supervisor and/or
Presiding Judge.

Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Behavioral Sciences, or related field. Kansas
Licensed Addiction Counselor through the (Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board—(BSRB).
Access to the Kansas Criminal Justice Information System (KCJIS) is required, so the following
KCJIS requirements apply: Must be at least 18 years of age; must have not been convicted of a
felony or serious misdemeanor. Minimum of one year experience working in probation, case
management, substance abuse field or criminal justice related field. Experience conducting
substance abuse assessments. Experience working as a Probation Officer and/or Court
Services Officer is preferred. Experience conducting risk/needs assessments preferred. No City
residency requirement.

Must successfully pass a thorough background check, physical and drug screen. 8:00 a.m.-5:00
p.m., Mon-Fri. $26.67-$33.34/hour ($4,623.53 – $5,779.42/month) Open until filled. Apply
